“Michigan’s current regulatory system is costing the state too many jobs. Regulatory policies fail to take into account the economic impact and the application of them makes it costly, frustrating and time-consuming to start or grow a business in our state. The focus has drifted too far towards punishing businesses. We would be better served with regulatory environment that focuses on protecting our citizens and natural resources by helping businesses comply,” said Snyder. “We can facilitate economic growth while protecting citizens and the environment. As Governor, that’s exactly what I will do. Our regulations should be crafted with a clear understanding of the economic impact as well as sound science .”
“Lansing needs to stop assuming citizens are going to abuse the system. Most Michiganders want a clean environment and to protect our natural resources in addition to more and better jobs. With my reforms in place, we will have a fair regulatory system that encourages compliance and rewards good businesses, while punishing the few that break the rules,” continued Snyder. “We need to put in place a system that treats businesses like customers and gives them the tools they need to succeed. If Lansing fails to respond in a timely fashion, businesses shouldn’t be punished by having their permits and applications held up. As we reinvent Michigan, Lansing needs to apply common sense solutions to the problems that our holding back our economic recovery.”
