On this Memorial Day, I'm joining countless Americans across our nation in honoring the brave servicemen and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice and gave their lives to protect our nation and our freedom.

Their courageous service has allowed generations of Americans to live freely and prosper in our wonderful country and I am proud to pay tribute to them today. I am thankful for the commitment our military's heroes have made to our nation and for the selfless service of those currently fighting overseas.

While our brave servicemen and women are away from home working hard to protect our freedom and liberty, we too have an obligation to them to make sure that the Michigan they return to is one where every citizen can pursue the dreams and live with the values they fought for.

Whether this Memorial Day has you traveling to Michigan's scenic gems, attending an event in your neighborhood, or grilling in your back yard, I hope you'll join me by keeping in mind the loved ones of all those who have fallen and those currently putting their lives in harm's way not just on this important holiday, but every day.
