Rick sent the following letter to campaign supporters early this morning:

Good morning,

Before I announced my candidacy, I pledged not to take any special interest or Political Action Committee (PAC) funds in my campaign. I made this pledge because I strongly believe that the next Governor of Michigan will need to make some very tough decisions and should not carry the weight of political baggage along with him. I want to be able to look anyone in the eye and tell them that I am doing what I believe is best for the citizens of the state of Michigan, not special interests.

I asked the other candidates in the race to join me in rejecting special interest funds, but none of them were willing to make that pledge. Their decision to continue politics as usual places my campaign at a disadvantage because they are going to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars from PACs, who can each contribute up to $34,000. That’s ten times the maximum limit that I can raise from individuals like you because the limit you can contribute to my campaign is $3,400.

We’ve seen career politicians cater to the lobbyist and special interest culture in Lansing for too long. Their narrow interests have prevented fresh ideas and long-term solutions from becoming a reality. I have the strength and resolve to lead on behalf of all of the citizens of the state which is why I’m not going to bring any political baggage with me to the office. I have shown my personal commitment to winning this election by contributing to our effort to reinvent Michigan, but I need your help as well.

Please stand up to special interests by helping me raise $20,000 in the next 20 days before the end of the year. Let’s show them that the citizens of this state are ready to take back control of state government. That means that every day until December 31st, we need to raise $1,000 dollars. Please contribute $10, $50, $100 or more here to my campaign and help us reach our goal.
